Created in 2003 by the Ministry of Education, Universities and Research (MIUR) as an instrument for territorial knowledge-based growth aimed at improving competitiveness in Italy, encouraging the integration of technological / scientific content Made in Italy.
Territorial aggregations of activities with a high technological content based on coexistence in the same geographical area of advanced research and a solid industrial background, are identified.
Systemic processes of innovation, integrating the contributions of the main territorial, scientific and industrial stakeholders while mobilizing skills and resources, all towards a knowledge-based development, is enhanced.
Within the Districts, specific local features become rewarding factors, as in the areas of business indicated by the local authorities, which express a priority for development suitable to pursue sustainable growth within the communities they represent.
SIIT participates in the advancement of this model of territorial development within the Region of Liguria.
