TRANSIT Pole and SOSIA Pole version 1.0

SIIT, from 2011 to 2014 provided the promotion, support as well as the operating address when defining the domains of 2 Regional Poles: TRANSIT (directly) and SOSIA (in collaboration with another body), particularly taking care of harmonization and synergies for SIIT-Poles District interaction activities:

  • TRANSIT Pole: Automation supervision, security in transport and logistics: Transport and logistics; port and inter-modality; technological, organizational, management and institutional aspects in the functioning of the processes pertaining to the bodies operating in the Ligurian territorial system.
  • SOSIA Pole: Systems and applications of advanced automation in even unstructured environments. “Intelligent” automation for the innovation of products, processes and services.

Performed activities

Overall, the activities were divided into three main modules:

  • Module 1: Management of the Pole
  • Module 2: Transfer of knowledge and planning
  • Module 3: Communication

Projects developed

The projects were developed as part of the call for the PAR FAS projects related to the Regional Innovation Poles, in particular in the case of SIIT at the TRANSIT Pole and the SOSIA Pole.

  • SMILE project: “Last mile logistics”
  • T Cube Project: “Territory and Tourism”
  • Pin4Mob project: “Platform to support services for small and medium-sized communities”
  • DIECI project: “Technology and devices for smart access”
  • SAFEMAP Project: “System for monitoring situations for natural disasters and environmental risk”
  • MES Project: “Manufacturing Execution Systems based on Cloud Computing technology”
  • SecurFusion Project: “Radio / Video Data Fusion for Site Safety”

TRANSIT Pole and SOSIA Pole version 2.0

In 2017, the Region of Liguria directed the redefining of the regional innovation poles, with regard to SIIT, the role of Subject Coordination Manager for the two TRANSIT Poles and SOSIA was ratified, whose operational areas were appropriately reviewed. In particular:

  • TRANSIT Pole version 2.0: the priority objective is the development and implementation of programs, projects and activities that, taking into account the economic, engineering and legal aspects, develop significant effects on the metropolitan, regional and macro regional scale, considering specific developments in infrastructure and regional logistic nodes (ports, interports, airports), interactions with the main road axes and networks at a larger scale, such as the new European road and rail corridors and sea routes.
In this sense, the general reference is research and innovation in the transport sector, as a significant example for rail transport, in line with National programs (Cluster Trasporti Italia 2020), and European programs (Shift2Rail) that aim for innovative solutions to increase the capacity, safety and efficiency of freight and passenger transport, reducing both the environmental impact and the entire life cost. The overall projects addressed within the TRANSIT Pole, using a substantial “know-how” already available thanks to the results obtained from previous Pole studies or projects in progress, will address the themes of sustainable mobility, transport safety, intelligent maintenance, and in general possible improvements in the management, development and intermodal control of traffic originating from goods and people.

  • SOSIA Pole version 2.0: priority is given to the development and implementation of programs, projects and activities mainly related to the following areas:
    1. Management of environmental risks and land control: study and development of applications in close collaboration with the domain’s stakeholders, which allow for integration of prevention and mitigation measures, monitoring and alert systems, emergency management (hydro-geological risk; environmental pollution in air, land, rivers and sea, flooding and coastal erosion). Definition of a temporal roadmap that provides support for the development of a structured program for the recovery and environmental control of the territory of the Region of Liguria.
The program will be based both on the rational integration of existing systems, applications, products and technologies, and on the integration of innovative elements deriving from new projects.
    2. Cybersecurity: critical infrastructures, including industrial control systems for energy production and distribution, supply chains, and transport. Data security, digital identity and applications in emerging computing paradigms (web, mobile, cloud and Internet-of-Things). Application security and security by design. Controlled sharing of information and classified documents.
    3. Cybersecurity training platforms. Elaboration of an innovative development plan for cybersecurity with the creation of regional centers of excellence in the field of research and industrial production.

Innovative ICT systems for the Smart Factory and automation: reference to the FI SharedLab-Liguria initiative and to the National Smart Factory Cluster: customized production systems; strategies, methods and tools for industrial sustainability; systems for the enhancement of people in factories; high efficiency production systems; innovative production processes; evolutionary and adaptive production systems; strategies and management for next-generation production systems.
